Hayward delays minimum wage increases a year because of coronavirus impact on businesses

Because of the economic hardship the coronavirus pandemic is wreaking on businesses, the Hayward City Council has decided against forcing employers to raise the minimum hourly wage to $15 on July 1.
At its meeting Tuesday night, the council agreed that asking business owners to pay more in salaries when they’re struggling to operate will just make things worse.
The council directed staff to return April 21 with a revised minimum wage ordinance that postpones the raises a year to July 1, 2021.

As the car door swung open, Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg fled inside after being hounded by Black Voters Matter activists at a minimum wage rally in South Carolina, US on Sunday.
The former South Bend, Indiana mayor had thrusted himself into a “Fight for $15” rally, where McDonald’s workers were loudly striking over raising their minimum wage. Fast-food workers and civil rights activist were calling on the chain for the right to unionise.
Chants of “We work! We sweat, put $15 on our check!” echoed down the thoroughfare, where more than 100 people clogged West Lincoln Avenue.

CHARLESTON, SC (WCIV) — Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg was among a large group of demonstrators marching through the streets of Charleston Monday, as part of a "Fight for $15" rally being held in the city.
Buttigieg is joining local civil rights activists and current and former fast-food workers, who are calling for the right to unionize, and for the state of South Carolina to implement a $15/hour minimum wage.
