“Fight for $15” rally held in Charleston, Pete Buttigieg marches with demonstrators

CHARLESTON, SC (WCIV) — Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg was among a large group of demonstrators marching through the streets of Charleston Monday, as part of a “Fight for $15” rally being held in the city.

Buttigieg is joining local civil rights activists and current and former fast-food workers, who are calling for the right to unionize, and for the state of South Carolina to implement a $15/hour minimum wage.

South Carolina has the lowest proportion of unions in the country, and does not have a state minimum wage; Rather, South Carolina follows the federal minimum wage set by law at $7.25/hour.
