Quebec Minimum Wage Will Go Up On May 1

In a press release Wednesday morning, the Minister of Labour, Employment, and Social Solidarity, Jean Boulet, confirmed that the Quebec minimum wage is still set to increase by 60 cents on May 1, for a total of $13.10/hour. Boulet hopes the announcement will "help mobilize workers, especially in the current context." He first announced the increase on December 18, 2019. The provincial government is raising the Ontario minimum wage on October 1 for the first time since January 2018. On October 1, 2020, the minimum amount a worker has to be paid is rising by 25 cents per hour, per the government's website. Nunavut Increases Minimum Wage

By Marie-Pier Leduc On March 12, 2020, the Government of Nunavut (GN) announced that it would be raising the minimum wage mandated by section 12(1.1.) of the Labour Standards Act from $13.00 per hour to $16.00 per hour, effective April 1, 2020. The wage increase follows a minimum wage survey conducted in September and October 2019 by the GN. The GN stated that it hoped that the $3.00 increase would assist residents of Nunavut in meeting obstacles associated with living in the territory with the highest cost of living in the country. With this increase, Nunavut becomes the jurisdiction with the highest minimum wage in Canada. Read More
