A happier New Year in prospect for San Francisco’s poor when it will become first U.S. city to raise minimum wage to $10

The citizens of San Francisco will have one more thing to celebrate on New Year’s Day – as the city becomes the first to introduce a $10 minimum wage.

The hourly wage for lowest-paid workers in what has become one of the country’s most expensive cities to live in will spring to $10.24.

That is more than $2 above the California minimum wage and nearly $3 more than the working wage set by the federal government.
