Join the Labor Contingent for Climate Justice at Summer Heat, Richmond

August 3, 2013 @ 8:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Dear Friends –

On Saturday, August 3rd at 10AM at the Richmond BART Station, in one of the largest climate justice protests of the summer, thousands of people will come together in a momentous West Coast mass action – “Summer Heat Richmond: March, Rally, and Nonviolent Direct Action at the Chevron Refinery” – to stand with the people of Richmond who are on the frontlines of our common fight for the health and safety of our workplaces and communities.

As part of the action, more than two dozen unions, worker centers, worker cooperatives, and worker justice organizations will march together to the gates of the Chevron Refinery to demand a just transition away from dirty fossil fuels and toward good, unions jobs for local residents in the clean energy economy.

What: Labor Contingent at Summer Heat Richmond
When: Saturday, August 3rd at 10AM
Where: Richmond BART, 1700 Nevin Ave., Richmond CA
RSVP: https://www.facebook.com/events/281139245366123

The action comes just days before the one year anniversary of the fire at the Chevron refinery which sent 15,000 local residents to the hospital and as Pres. Obama considers approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline which scientists have called “game over for climate.”

We will hold a brief speak out with local workers and labor leaders at the Richmond BART Station before marching with thousands of others to the Richmond refinery to demand that our people and planet come before their pollution and profit:

• Yes to a Just Transition from Dirty Fossil Fuels to Union Jobs in Clean
Energy
• No More Life-Threatening Hazards at Chevron
• No Refining of Dirty Crude
• No More Corporate Tax Evasion by Chevron
• No More Polluting Our Democracy by Chevron
• No Keystone XL Tar Sands Pipeline

Please look for the “It’s Time for a Living Wage” banner to march with us and take a turn holding up the banner. Let us know ahead of time your name and size, and we will bring a United Worker Congress t-shirt for you. The
event will be family friendly, including a children’s brigade (https://www.facebook.com/events/467280663367155).
